Logic-Board Repair and Microsoldering Services

Tech Lab provides specialist logic-board diagnosis, component-level repair and microsoldering for phones, tablets, laptops, MacBooks and game consoles. We investigate faults that cannot normally be resolved through a straightforward replacement part.

Common cases include devices with no power, charging failure, liquid damage, short circuits, damaged ports, failed components, previous repair attempts and important data trapped on a non-working device.

About Tech Lab

Specialist Board-Level Repair from Our Worthing Workshop

Tech Lab is a family-run, independent technology repair business based in Worthing, West Sussex. We have been repairing consumer technology since 2018 and support both local customers and customers using our UK-wide mail-in service.

Our work covers everyday repairs such as screens, batteries and charging parts, as well as advanced faults involving logic boards, liquid damage, no-power conditions, damaged connectors and data-recovery cases.

We do not describe every non-working device as a board fault. The first step is diagnosis. Where the problem is caused by a replaceable part, we will advise that route. Where the board itself is damaged, we can assess whether component-level repair is suitable.

Watch Logic-Board Repair in Our Worthing Workshop

This workshop video gives customers a closer look at the type of detailed repair work carried out at Tech Lab. Board-level repair involves careful inspection, electrical diagnosis and microsoldering rather than simply replacing the complete motherboard.

The exact method varies by device and fault. We test the reported symptoms, inspect the board and identify the failed circuit or damaged component before confirming whether repair is technically suitable.

  • Detailed inspection and fault tracing
  • Microsoldering under specialist magnification
  • Component-level repair where technically appropriate
  • Testing before collection or tracked return

The video shows an example of our workshop activity. Every repair is assessed individually, and the method, cost, turnaround and outcome depend on the device and the extent of the fault.

Common Symptoms

Faults That May Require Logic-Board Diagnosis

The same symptom can have several causes. These are common reasons customers submit devices for board-level assessment.

01

No Power

The device remains completely dead, powers briefly or restarts repeatedly.

02

Charging Failure

The device will not charge, only charges intermittently or rejects suitable chargers.

03

Liquid Damage

Corrosion, short circuits or failed components after water or drink exposure.

04

Damaged Ports

USB-C, HDMI, charging or internal connectors detached from the board.

05

No Display

The device powers on but shows no image, backlight or stable display output.

06

Short Circuit

Excessive current draw, hot components or a shorted power rail.

07

Previous Repair Attempt

Damaged pads, missing components or incomplete work from an earlier repair.

08

Data Trapped on a Dead Device

Important data cannot be accessed because the original device will not start.

Original-Board Data Recovery

When Repairing the Board Is Necessary to Access the Data

On some phones, tablets and newer computers, important data is tied to components on the original logic board. Replacing the whole board may create a working device but will not normally restore access to the original stored data.

Cases We Can Assess

Board-level recovery may be considered where a device is physically damaged, liquid damaged or completely dead but the original storage and security components remain recoverable.

  • No-power phones and tablets
  • Liquid-damaged devices
  • MacBooks with original-board faults
  • Temporary repair for data access

Important Limitations

Data recovery cannot be guaranteed. Success depends on the condition of the board, storage components, security chips, previous repair attempts and the extent of corrosion or physical damage.

  • Critical chips must remain functional or recoverable
  • Severe corrosion may prevent repair
  • Missing components may increase complexity
  • Secure or encrypted areas may remain inaccessible

Logic-Board Repair Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a logic-board repair?

A logic-board repair involves diagnosing and repairing faults within the device’s main circuit board. This may include replacing failed components, repairing damaged traces or pads, restoring connectors and locating short circuits.

Is logic-board repair always necessary for a dead device?

No. A dead device may have a battery, charging-port, power-supply or other replaceable-part fault. Diagnosis is needed before the correct repair route can be confirmed.

Can you repair liquid-damaged boards?

Selected liquid-damaged boards can be assessed for corrosion, short circuits and failed components. The outcome depends on the severity of the damage and whether critical components remain functional.

Can you repair a device another shop has already worked on?

We can assess selected previous repair attempts. Please tell us what work was attempted and whether any components, shields, screws or connectors are missing.

Can logic-board repair recover my data?

In some cases, repairing the original board can restore temporary or permanent access to the data. Recovery cannot be guaranteed and depends on the condition of the original storage and security components.

How long does board-level repair take?

Complex repairs commonly take around five to seven working days, although some cases take longer depending on diagnosis, component availability, workload and previous damage.

Do logic-board repairs include a warranty?

Qualifying logic-board repairs normally include 30-day warranty cover. The applicable warranty is confirmed for the individual repair.

Can I post my device to Tech Lab?

Yes. Customers throughout the UK can use the mail-in repair service. Complete the online form and follow the packaging and postage instructions.
